About Flying Catastrophe

Caroline is a circus artist, performer, and theatrical designer. They have worked onstage and backstage in a variety of performance spaces and at many festivals, designed for many shows they grew to love deeply, and are always looking for new collaborations, reasons to travel, and ways to learn. They are constantly curious. Alongside their theatrical work, Caroline creates and performs as a contemporary circus artist, inspired by themes of identity, vulnerability, risk, and grief. They specialize in lyra, clowning, and corde lisse, with joyous forays into spanish web, dance, tight-wire, partner acrobatics, contortion, sling, and trapeze.

Caroline began their study of circus in 2018 after witnessing incredible vulnerability and spectacle at the Fringe Arts Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. They have since sought out and worked with coaches of aerial, dance, clowning, tightwire, and storytelling, in addition to becoming a lyra coach and performer. They deeply enjoy collaborating with others as they move, create, and explore. As both a theater professional and circus performer, they aim to elevate, support, and develop stories and works about social issues, the self, and the gray areas of our lives, society, and the communities we find ourselves wrapped in. Don't start thinking they're always so serious though; Caroline loves to discover the sillier moments of life and infuse their work with moments of levity and silliness. 

When not contemplating and creating, Caroline can be found with their cats: watching squirrels through the window, traipsing to the mailbox, and reveling in snuggles on the couch. Described by others as an indoor/outdoor cat themselves, you're likely to find Caroline nestled quietly at home or out joyfully exploring in the bigger world beyond.
